VISTA members #GetThingsDone for Metro Denver

It's AmeriCorps Week across the U.S.! MDHI has hosted a VISTA team to support OneHome and regional homeless planning groups since 2014. We are grateful for their contributions and dedication to service in our community.

The grant was originally written to support the build out of our OneHome system (named CAHPS at that time) for Coordinated Entry. As OneHome developed and evolved, the VISTA team has also been leveraged to support the integration of the system regionally. In the past year, the focus has been on being a supportive liaison between OneHome and the regional communities as well as supporting each of their plans working towards ending homelessness.

Since it's beginnings in 2014, our VISTA team has also provided integral support to the Point in Time planning process and execution. They have raised more than $50,000 in donations to use as incentives for those being surveyed. Every location that requested incentives this year received items to give out to those experiencing homelessness. This is 100% due to the hard work of the VISTAs. The team has also recruited and managed over 200 volunteers to support our community during this time. Additionally, through regional projects such as VI-SPDAT trainings and other capacity building supports, members have provided assistance to over 100 organizations across the Denver Metro Area.

MDHI's VISTA team has served with many organizations across the region. Currently, members are serving with Aurora@Home and the City of Aurora, MCPN and Arapahoe County, Family Tree and Jefferson County's Heading Home, Unison Housing Partners (formerly Adams County Housing Authority), OneHome, and MDHI. Previous partners include Boulder County, Close to Home, and Denver's Road Home.

MDHI is currently applying for a 5th year continuation of our VISTA capacity building grant. The primary grant focus continues to be on housing and increasing the effectiveness of OneHome regional support. We will be sharing information with the community soon about how your organization can apply to have a VISTA support your capacity building efforts. Contact Diane, MDHI's Community Coordinator, at with any questions.
