Jefferson County Comprehensive Summer Count

Jefferson County and participating municipalities are conducting a Comprehensive Homeless Count throughout Jefferson County during the month of August. This is not the HUD mandated Point-in-Time Count that takes place in January across the nation.  This Count will expand on the HUD definition of homelessness in order to paint the full picture of what homelessness looks like in a suburban community where services are scattered and sometimes non-existent. By measuring the full scope, we have a chance of designing services and policies to prevent homelessness and ensure it is short-lived when it does occur.

Volunteers are needed to conduct surveys the week of August 19-23. Volunteers will work in groups accompanied by law enforcement personnel. The volunteer groups will drive to locations where people experiencing homelessness often gather during the day to conduct a short, five-minute survey.

We are in need of many volunteers to help conduct surveys to make this effort a success. Please consider joining us and sharing this information with anyone in your network that might be interested in helping by registering at
