Meet the MDHI VISTAs

We’d like to introduce the MDHI VISTAs, Layla Said and Alex Rigberg. They both started their year of service in November 2019. They work with our Directors to build capacity and support for MDHI’s Council and Committee structure in order to maximize the efficiency of Metro Denver’s regional crisis response system.

Layla Said ( - "I’m a recent graduate from The Pennsylvania State University with a B.S. in Economics and a Minor in English. I have always been passionate about advocating for social justice within marginalized populations and am grateful to be a part of an organization whose mission is to end homelessness. As someone who has personally experienced homelessness, I have a clear understanding of the dehumanizing and inhumane conditions faced by those most vulnerable in our population. Throughout my service, I am committed to empowering the voices of those with lived experience. In the words of Audre Lorde, “it is better speak, remembering we were never meant to survive.”

Alex Rigberg ( - "I recently graduated from Lehigh University with a major in International Relations and three years of Arabic language study. I am interested in serving marginalized populations and am thankful for the opportunity to work in homelessness services – a field that is very new to me. I have already learned a great deal about our homelessness system working for MDHI. Participating in street outreach during the Point in Time count was a particularly eye-opening experience for me. Hearing the stories of people experiencing homelessness was at times heartbreaking but an important experience. I am excited to learn more over the next nine months of my service."
