A Letter from the Executive Director of MDHI
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
I am writing to let you know that I am leaving my position as Executive Director at MDHI. My last day will be Thursday, November 29, 2018. Next week, a new search committee will begin looking for new, bold leadership to advance MDHI’s mission and vision.
Save the Date! OneHome Community Partners Meeting
OneHome is hosting a community partners meeting, facilitated by Focus Strategies, for a half day on the morning of November 13th. The OneHome Community Partners Meeting will be an opportunity for our community to come together to review HUD’s expectations of Coordinated Entry, look back at what we have accomplished so far, and discuss ways we can work together to improve OneHome.
We would like to have a good mix of staff attend the meeting from executive directors to outreach workers; in particular, we would like to have any staff who are currently working within OneHome (outreach, housing providers, day shelters, etc.) so they can share their expertise with the group. The location has not been selected yet, so please keep an eye out for the announcement with the time and location soon. We look forward to seeing you all on November 13th!
Program Spotlight - MHBHC Integrated Care
Mile High Behavioral Healthcare, has opened a new Front Range Clinic. It is an integrated care clinic that provides support for substance use, mental health, and any other behavioral issues in the form of groups, individual therapy, peer to peer coaching, case management, and administering UA’s for clients as well as community members.
PIT Stop - Everyone Counts!
Thank you to all who attended and participated in the Point in Time Community Planning Launch, and for the support you will give in the coming months to make sure that everyone is counted in our community. MDHI will be including a regular PIT update in these bi-weekly emails, and please feel free to reach out to our regional coordinator, Diane Howald, at PIT@mdhi.org. Area and county planning groups are beginning across the region, coordinator emails are available here, and volunteer sign up information will be available starting in December.
COR3 - a New RRH Program for Re-Entry
COR3 is a new Rapid Rehousing program, and will be a collaboration between the Colorado Division of Housing, Volunteers of America Colorado Branch, the CoC's OneHome Coordinated Entry System, and the Colorado Department of Corrections.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Domestic violence, sexual violence and human trafficking survivors must have safe and confidential access to the Coordinated Entry process as well as to victim services. Many survivors' lives have been marked by danger, injury, chaos, fear, and sabotage. For homeless/housing providers receiving these referrals, working effectively with survivors requires knowledge and attention to practices that can help survivors become and stay safer, and to safely participate in homeless/housing services. This, in turn, supports your program’s goals, as survivors are more likely to be successful in retaining their housing when basic safeguards and supports are in place.
This toolkit provides resources and information that can boost your homeless/housing program's ability to confidently offer housing services that are meaningful, safe, and grounded in best practices for a survivor population.
