Point in Time volunteers needed!!!

Point in Time - Volunteers Needed!!

It's time to sign up! Community volunteers and agency staff are needed to help support the 2019 Point in Time – Everyone Counts!

In 2018 hundreds of volunteers supported efforts across the seven-county region to survey 5,317 people experiencing homelessness that night in January – and we literally could not do this without you.

Next month, beginning at sunset on Monday night, January 28th, 2019 and over the next 24 hours, our community will reach out to connect with and survey folks at shelters, libraries, service agencies, along the rivers,in tents and cars, and many other locations. We work to be at all the places people spend time, and to walk areas where people are living outside.

How can you help? Volunteer! Sponsor! Donate!

We need community volunteers for shifts across the metro region – view all the shifts and sign up for an in-person training here.

Homeless services staff and those with experience with the PIT count are needed to lend expertise to teams engaging with people experiencing homeless at many locations, and especially to support our street outreach efforts! We have shifts starting Monday night and during the day Tuesday.

Homeless Services staff – enter the code: PIT2019 to unlock agency/locked shifts like Denver street outreach and flexible shifts to cover emergency needs – and outreach support outside of Denver. Agency staff may watch an online training if they have previously supported the PIT, and still encouraged – though not required.

For all the ways you can support Everyone Counts – follow this link. If you know of businesses that may be willing to donate items to be handed out that day, or are interested in sponsoring the count so we can buy needed items such as bus tickets – please reach out to us!

MDHI Flex Fund is no longer accepting requests as of 12/18/18

Thanks to the strong and consistent support from the Metro Mayors Caucus and others, MDHI and our partnering agencies have been able to use the Flex Fund to help secure housing for 45 households since July 2018. Any requests submitted on or after 12/18/18 will not be approved. MDHI hopes to identify another funding stream for the fund. Notifications related to the future of the Flex Fund will get sent out in MDHI’s communications and posted on our website.

Denver Public Library seeking support for affordable housing workshops

The Denver Public Library is currently seeking volunteers to support a new initiative to help community members in need of affordable rental housing connect and apply to available programs. Volunteers will be trained on how to help individuals identify subsidized and affordable rental housing opportunities, complete, and submit applications as part of affordable housing application workshops to be held the third Wednesday of each month from 3:00-5:30pm at the Rodolfo "Corky" Gonzales Library beginning in February 2019. Volunteers must attend an initial training (date TBD), agree to a background check, and be willing to make a 6-month commitment.  For more information, or to apply to volunteer, please contact Alix Midgley, Community Resource Specialist, at (720) 865-2361 or amidgley@denverlibrary.org

Details for those interested in attending or referring to the workshop will be shared soon!

We are thankful for your efforts and dedication towards ending homelessness in metro Denver throughout 2018 and appreciate your engagement and collaboration throughout the region and locally in your community.

Everyone at MDHI wishes you all the best – Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!
