Youth Action Board

To integrate at-risk youth into a social system that advocates for their safety and well-being, as well as holding ourselves accountable for their roles in our journey.

To shape a future where every youth has a clear path to rise above their challenges and an avenue to share their experiences.

Role & Responsibilities

The voices of lived experience are key to developing a homeless crisis response system that equitably serves those most vulnerable in our population. Lived experience must inform the design and delivery of human services and social programs for these to successfully uplift their target populations. Only those that have experienced homelessness and interacted with the homeless crisis response system can provide the solutions to ending homelessness in the Metro Denver region.

The purpose of the Youth Action Board (YAB) is to integrate at-risk youth into a social system that advocates for their safety and well-being. It engages the voices of currently and formerly homeless youth ages 18-24 to address gaps in youth-specific services. So far, the YAB is responsible for:

  • Advising the MDHI BOD on CoC policies and procedures that affect youth experiencing homelessness
  • Participating in ongoing professional development and training
  • Planning community events to engage homeless youth in the community
  • Surveying youth and conducting other research necessary to create informed recommendations to providers
  • Reviewing the Youth Supplemental Survey for the annual PIT count and providing feedback

In order to facilitate communication from the YAB to the MDHI Board of Directors, an additional seat was added to the Board of Directors roster to be held exclusively by a member of the YAB. This seat is currently held by Ayashe Cornelius as of 01/09/20.
